- Born in Feb. 9, 1865, on a farm in Jericho, Vermont.
- As a child he studied all forms of moisture. He kept a record of the weather and did many experiments with raindrops.
- He is known for photographing snowflakes.
Bentley is one of the first known photographers of snowflakes. He perfected a process of catching flakes on black velvet in such a way that their images could be captured before they melted.
